Why Choose Ultra Thin Pocket Watches
Pocket watches have been around since the late 1400's, when a clockmaker named Bartholomew Manfredi offered what he called a pocket clock to the Marchese di Manta. Manfredi claimed that his pocket clock was superior to even the one carried by the Duke of Moderna. In 1510, the first pocket watches were manufactured and distributed by a man named Peter Henlein. Henlein was a locksmith from Nurenberg, and his efforts helped spread the pocket watch craze throughout Europe.
In the 1900's, an increase in railroad activity led to wide use of pocket watches. These timepieces became required of railroad engineers to ensure proper time was kept. There were specific qualifications and requirements all watches had to meet before being deemed safe for use on trains. During the first World War, however, soldiers soon learned that wrist watches were better than pocket watches when it came to viewing the time quickly and conveniently. This led to a surge in popularity for wrist watches and a decline in popularity for pocket watches.
These days, pocket watches are often given as gifts and treated as family heirlooms. One popular choice for today are ultra thin pocket watches. These watches are very similar to traditional ones, featuring the clock on a chain that is hooked onto a belt loop and kept in the pocket. They also feature the usual hinged cover that is designed to protect the watch face from damage. However, they are, as their name suggests, very thin. This makes them ideal when seeking a traditional timepiece that is light and easily carried.
By performing a simple online search, you can find many different kinds of ultra thin pocket watches for sale. Some are silver, some gold, some platinum. Some feature pricey gems while others are minimalist. These watches make great gifts for collectors, or anyone experiencing a milestone. For an extra personal touch, have the watch engraved before presenting it as a gift.
You can find ultra thin pocket watches in online jewelry retailers, specialty shops, and online auction houses like Ebay. With a little comparison shopping, you can find the perfect ultra thin pocket watches from which to choose, either for a gift, or for your own collection.
I would also consider unitas watches if the thickness of your pocket watch is not a major issue.
